A legend remains

Some days, 1881 doesn't seem that long ago. However, when James A. Henshall, M.D. penned his now classic work, Book of the Black Bass, bass fishing was still in it's infancy.
Originally published by Robert Clarke & Co. of Cininnati, the book was last reprinted by B.A.S.S. in 1987.
Henshall's book - all 470-plus pages - makes fine reading even today. We think of it as a "back to the future" type of book because many of the "old" techniques work just as well today. And, the techniques described in the Book of the Black Bass are under utilized today. "Okay, but what does that mean to me," you ask. Simple, the techniques shared by Henshall are not seen by many bass, or bass anglers for that matter. That, alone, may add more Micropterus salmoides to your livewell.
Additionally, this book contains some excellent drawings, as well as good source of early scientific information on the black bass.

Verdict

If you are the least bit serious of bass fishing, like we are, then you also study that species. Henshall's Book of the Black Bass is a fundamental part of any bass anglers library. Look for it at flea markets, etc. You won't be sorry you did.
